Fairview Welcomes Military Families
Since 2021, Fairview has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children as a Purple Star School. The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families.
Principal Goldstein Recognized
In 2023, Principal Samantha Goldstein was recognized as Outstanding New Principal for Region 4. Mrs. Goldstein joined Fairview on July 1, 2022, immediately demonstrating a commitment to building strong relationships and a positive school culture. She prioritizes children, parents, and staff, leading by example with honesty and integrity. Mrs. Goldstein isn't afraid of tough conversations, offering support and guidance. She encourages personal growth, maintains an open-door policy, and holds high expectations for everyone.
Involved Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
The Fairview PTA supports whole-school initiatives, fostering strong home-school connections, and providing resources for families. It helps organize and fund various programs, enhancing the overall educational experience. The PTA hosts monthly family fun events, which bring our community together, strengthen relationships, and create lasting memories. They also visit the school periodically to help with our Lost and Found and to feed the staff tasty treats! Everyone at Fairview is incredibly grateful for our loving PTA.
Notable Alumni
Doug Kammerer, local NBC4 News Weatherman, attended Fairview Elementary School. He recently visited Fairview to speak with students about the weather and what meterologists really do.
Fairview Celebrates Diversity
Fairview has a diverse staff. Many of our staff are military-connected and have lived all around the world. Our staff also includes two experienced Global Teachers coming to Fairview from the Philippines!
Fairview Clubs and Programs
Fairview students have the opportunity to participate in clubs and programs before, during, and after school! Students can join our Student Ambassador program, which welcomes new students to school, including our military-connected students. Fifth and Sixth Graders can participate in our Student-led Fairview News Show alongside our dedicated Librarian, Ellen Valentine. Many of our Fifth and Sixth graders also join our Fairview band and strings program and then ultimately join the Robinson Orchestra and Marching Band in high school. There are also tons of after-school programs supported by the PTA that include: chess, STEAM activities, acting class, science club, running club, coding, and ceramics!
History through Art
The mural at Fairview Elementary School is a captivating time capsule, offering a visual journey through the rich history of the local area. It depicts key elements of Fairfax County's past, from its early days as a bustling port to its role in significant historical events. In the mural, you will find oxen to symbolize the ox that would pull cargo from Occoquan River to Tyson's Corner creating what we now call "ox road". There is also a small church that pays homage to Clara Barton and her work starting the American Red Cross. Finally, in the back of the mural you will see the original one-room schoolhouse where Fairview began its journey. This mural was a heartfelt contribution from Former Fairview Art Teacher, Merrierose Derr, who continues to care for the mural to this day.
A Love for the Earth
Fairview is a place where Earth Day is every day. From our Learning Garden attached to our Kindergarten classes, to our live trees in the center of our school, to our multiple gardens hidden throughout the building, we here at Fairview love the outdoors and want to do everything we can to help out our Earth!
Fairview's 125 Year History
Fairview Elementary School, established in 1899, is a testament to the evolution of education in Fairfax County. In its early days, the schoolhouse was a simple wooden structure, far removed from the modern facilities we know today. Students walked miles to attend, learning basic subjects like reading, writing, and arithmetic. As the county grew, so did Fairview. The school expanded, adding classrooms and modern amenities. Despite these changes, the school's commitment to fostering a strong sense of community has remained constant.
Fairview Elementary School is more than just a place of learning; it's a community where young minds are nurtured, and spirits are uplifted. Join us on this journey of discovery and growth, and experience the power of our Falcon WINGS as we SOAR!
